| Philosophy
and Religion (PAR) is a peer reviewed special series of scholarly works in the Value
Inquiry Book Series (VIBS) division of Editions Rodopi B. V. books (Atlanta and New York).
PAR is co-sponsored by the Centre for the Study of Philosophy and Religion at the
University College of Cape Breton. Details concerning PARs Mission Statement, 21
member Board of Directors, and the VIBS special series of scholarly books can be seen at
this website |
|
| Manuscript submissions to PAR undergo three levels of scrutiny
before being accepted for publication. The first cut is made by the editorial director to
ensure that the proposal is scholarly. VIBS does not accept dissertations. Scholarly
manuscript proposals that fall outside the purview of Philosophy and Religion are referred
to other special series VIBS editors for review. Promising submissions in the PAR field,
including a proposal outline and sample chapter, are forwarded to the 21 member board of
directors for a decision on publication. In cases of negative decisions, authors receive a
(blind review) copy of editorial comments. Editorial decisions are final. Authors that
make it past the second cut must now agree to abide by VIBSs strict stylistic
regulations before they are offered a contract and begin work with an editor. The role of
an editor is to bring out the best in an author. This usually entails a laborious process
of deleting, rewriting, and adding portions of text, though authors have final say on
contents. A camera-ready copy of the final manuscript is subsequently reviewed by a
(third party) Confirmation Editor before it is sent to VIBSs Managing Editor for
publication. The high quality scholarship and stylistic excellence of PAR books is
exemplified in Rem B. Edwardss "What Caused the Big Bang?" VIBS volume
number 115 (the first book published in the PAR series) and Deane-Peter Baker and Patrick
Maxwell, editors, "Explorations in Contemporary Continental Philosophy of
Religion" VIBS volume number 143 (the second book published in the PAR series). A
third book (Wu-Wei and the Question of the Other) is in process with a series guest
editor. |
|
| The VIBS line of scholarly books is edited by a team of 35 special
series editors worldwide, collectively achieving the highest degree of scholarship and
academic excellence possible. For further details on VIBS website. |
