Theories of Personality, Psychology 3303, University of Ottawa, School of Psychology, 1993; Psychology 250, University College of Cape Breton, 1994 – present, also by distance. Instructor for the survey course in personality psychology for second and third year undergraduates. Fourteen major personality theories are reviewed with emphasis on the interrelations among these classic theories and their connection to modern research programs.
Research Practicum, Psychology 303. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1994 - . A survey course of intermediate statistics including both ANOVA designs (t-tests, oneway, factorial, and split plot) and multivariate statistics (including regression, factor analysis, MANOVA, and causal modelling). This is modelled after a graduate-level statistics course.
Introduction to Statistics for Psychology, Psychology 281. King's College, University of Western Ontario, Department of Psychology, 1991-1992. Lecturer and lab instructor for a full-year, undergraduate course in statistics, emphasizing probability theory and fundamental procedures for statistical inference, including z, t, F, r, regression, and chi-square.
Social Psychology, Psychology 2110. University of Ottawa, School of Psychology, 1994. Lecturer for the basic social psychology course for undergraduates. Particular emphasis is given to the relations among personality, social, and cognitive psychology.
Motivation, Psychology 311. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1995 - 1997. A survey of major theories of motivation including deficiency motives, growth motives, and goal-related emotions as motivating agents. Particular emphasis is given to the complementary, layered nature of motives and the difficulty in isolating a single motive for any given behaviour.
Human Sexuality and Sex Education, Psychology 365. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. A course designed to cover physical, psychological, and social aspects of sexual behaviour. A variety of pedagogical methods were used, including films, guest speakers, group discussion, projects (eg., make a pamphlet, search for web sites, analyse a sexual experience) and student
presentations. Emphasis was placed on dispelling myths about sexuality and integrating
knowledge of various topics.
