What we have on this page:

Here are some web sites that provide real job postings relevant to Anthropology and Sociology graduates, especially those who have gone on to complete a graduate degree. Even if you don't (yet) have the qualifications to apply for the advertised jobs, visit these sites and review the ads. Doing so will help you identify marketable credentials, skills, and experiences, and learn about potential employers. You can use that information in developing your future educational and career plans.

Please Note:

Most of these sites have been recommended on various e-mail lists. Departmental faculty have not (to date) visited all of them.  We ask you to help us evaluate them.  Don't forget to look towards the bottom of the page for sites which were recommended directly to the departmental faculty.  If you check out any sites and have comments, let us know.  You can e-mail the chair of department John deRoche (jdr@uccb.ns.ca) or directly to our site manager at gweb_world@hotmail.com.  Likewise, if you discover any other useful job opportunity sites, let us know the same way!

   • The Public Service Commission of Canada offers job opportunities to students and graduates.

FSWEP (the Federal Student Work Experience program) has a large inventory of (about 8,000) summer employment opportunities for students. The web address, which allows you to submit an application, is: http://www.jobs.gc.ca/fswep-pfete/student/index_e.htm

NOTE: One of our graduates, who's working in the public service, advises students to strongly emphasize any research-methods courses taken or experience in bibliographic research, interviewing, survey research, demographic analysis, and data analysis. (Though the program is competitive – there are about ten applicants per job – it provides excellent experience and contacts.) Note that by December, most jobs for the following summer have been filled, so visit the site and apply early, if you're interested.

The Commission also makes full-time jobs available to graduates. While many positions require economics, business, or engineering, the job postings aren't restricted to these fields. The site's home page contains an option for information on post-graduate positions. You can find it at: http://www.jobs.gc.ca/home_e.htm
